In line with a recent ongoing growth spurt, Grandview Medical Center is expanding its services with the addition of a new orthopedic center.

The new addition will be an ambulatory surgery center that concentrates on orthopedic surgery and pain management procedures. The construction for the project, which is slated to begin this spring, is expected to cost around $16 million.

A notable property in uptown Charlotte’s Fourth Ward has a buyer, more than three years after it was listed for sale.

Birmingham, Alabama-based Daniel Corp. closed March 12 on the acquisition of two parcels at 306 N. Graham St. and 420 W. Sixth St., according to Mecklenburg County real estate records. The developer paid $9 million for the two sites, which total 1.6 acres along North Graham Street between West Sixth and Seventh streets.

Highland Plaza, once home to Western Supermarket, Hot and Hot Fish Club, Highland Package Store, and Taj India, among other businesses across more than eight decades, is being bulldozed to make way for a new development from Daniel Corporation. It has been a fixture of Birmingham’s retail culture since the late 1930s.

Birmingham-headquartered commercial real estate development firm Daniel Corporation has started construction on an upscale multifamily community in Georgia.

The firm has closed on land, and work has begun on the $100 million project in Savannah, Georgia.

The 288-unit rental community will consist of six four-story buildings located on Hutchinson Island across the Savannah River from the downtown historic district of Savannah. The community is also adjacent to the 403-hotel and 18-hole Westin Savannah Golf Resort and Spa and the newly expanded Savannah Convention Center. Interior units will feature quartz countertops, custom cabinetry, designer lighting and smart home features. The community will include a clubhouse with a leasing office, resident social and co-working space, and an expansive fitness studio opening up to an outdoor lounge area featuring a fireplace and views of the saltwater pool and deck.

“We are excited to make this investment in Savannah, America’s first planned city, and on an incredibly unique site,” said Pat Henry, president and CEO of Daniel. “Savannah features a diverse economy, the most dynamic east coast port in the United States and recent expansions of Hyundai, the Savannah College of Art and Design only add to this historically unique city. Office leasing has been doing well as companies plan for space needs in a new era of in-office work, but local real estate professionals say there’s less momentum on the office sales side.

John Hardin, managing director at Shannon Waltchack, said there’s been a drop off in the number of building sales and expects to see fewer on the market in 2023. Although there always seems to be a flurry of sales toward the end of the year, he ultimately believes 2021 acquisitions will outpace 2022. He will know for certain when fourth-quarter 2022 data is finalized.
