People Helping People Build a Better Life
When Wiletta Dunlap heard that she was going to be a homeowner she was thrilled, and a little nervous. Wiletta is a single mother with two young children who also works full time at Daniel Corporation. She wondered how she would find the time to complete 300 hours of "sweat equity" required for Habitat homeowners. That's when her friends and co-workers at Daniel Corporation stepped in. They worked alongside Wiletta to help her reach her dream of homeownership.
"It's not everyday that we see co-workers get behind fellow employees like Daniel Corporation has done for Wiletta," said Habitat Construction Director Johnny Roberts. "They all come ready to work in whatever area that they can."
Daniel Corporation employees have done everything from painting and siding on houses to assisting in the Habitat for Humanity office.
After all that work, what's the result? Wiletta, with help from some friends, has completed 241 sweat equity hours in less than three months! Families working toward homeownership can receive assistance up to 175 hours of sweat equity. Wiletta is required to do 50 hours of volunteer time on her own house.
