Big Developments for The Plaza Midtown

May Marks Big Developments for The Plaza Midtown

The Plaza Midtown, a mixed-use joint venture of Daniel Corporation and Selig Enterprises, celebrated the opening of a 33,000-square-foot Publix supermarket with announcement of four new tenants.

Encompassing an entire 3.3-acre city block between West Peachtree and Spring Streets at 8 th Street, the 550,000-square-foot Plaza Midtown welcomed its first homeowners earlier this year. Now residents and the entire Midtown community have a Publix urban market store, featuring gourmet foods to go, as well as three new restaurants and an upscale day spa, as part of The Plaza Midtown's 70,000-square-foot, street-level retail component.

Flanked by twin 20-story residential towers, the retail space fronts four different streetscapes and offers the appeal of boutique shopping and dining. Renowned in the multi-family arena, Daniel Corporation is developing The Plaza Midtown's residential component. Selig Enterprises, one of Atlanta's most prominent shopping center developers, owns, leases and manages the retail component.

"The Plaza Midtown's ability to attract strong retail tenants and to sell our condominiums at such a steady pace is indicative of the momentum that is building for Midtown Atlanta," said Steve Baile, Vice President, Daniel Corporation. "There's such a pent-up demand for quality intown living. We strongly believe that mixed use is critical to Midtown's continued growth, and retail is a big component of that."

Baile credits Midtown Alliance and its Blueprint for bringing the vision to life. "Being able to create the right densities for a walkable community requires a good mix of office, residential and retail. Midtown Alliance has been instrumental in the area's growth," he noted. "The Blueprint has led to a more cohesive community feel that benefits all who live, work and play here."

Here is a look at the retail newcomers.

Publix
Promising to put the super back in supermarket, this Publix is rolling out a new urban concept, featuring gourmet take-out, an extensive wine selection, fresh sushi and other specialty items, complete with a walk-up window and outdoor dining on Spring Street.

J. Christopher's
Consistently voted one of Atlanta's best brunch spots, J. Christopher's serves breakfast, lunch and brunch. With almost a dozen Atlanta locations, J. Christopher's is expected to open this fall at The Plaza Midtown.

Steel
Slated to open in first quarter 2007, Steel is making its first foray outside of Dallas with this Midtown location. Offering Japanese and Indo-chine cuisine, this cosmopolitan restaurant has received national accolades from Esquire and Wine Spectator magazines.

DRESSED, Salads with Style
Scheduled to open late summer or early fall 2006, DRESSED is a sophisticated yet casual eatery. Owner Justin Smolev's fast and casual dining concept offers creative, fresh ingredients. DRESSED is perfect for the salad lover looking for an inspired and satisfying meal in a chic, but fun environment.

Signature Day Spa
Scheduled to open early fall 2006, this spa will offer massage, skin care, tanning and nail services with on-site amenities, including sauna and steam.

With less than one-third of the retail space still available for lease and only a few homes remaining for purchase, Baile characterized the Daniel-Selig partnership as "amazing." The goal, he said, is for retail tenants who "are consistent with The Plaza Midtown's high quality, cosmopolitan lifestyle and who enhance the retailers currently in Midtown." Ideally, the remaining retail space will be leased to a clothing boutique, additional restaurants, a wine bar and a hair salon.
